Program & Research Topics
- Are PhD research topics predefined, or can candidates propose their own research subject?
There are predefined research topics; however, applicants can also propose their own research topic for consideration.
- Where and when will the list of available thesis topics be published (if applicable)?

- Are there doctoral paths tailored for experienced engineers with strong industrial backgrounds rather than purely academic profiles?
The position allows for purely academic research and applied research; moreover, opportunities also exist to work in close partnership with industry leaders.
Eligibility & Academic Requirements
- Is a completed Master’s degree mandatory at the time of application or enrollment?
In addition to completed Masters, applications are also welcome from students in the final year of their Master’s, provided the degree is expected by Fall 2026.
- How important is prior research experience compared to practical engineering work?
Prior research experience, as well as practical engineering work, will be considered but is not mandatory.
Funding & Employment Conditions
- Is the PhD fully funded?
Yes, it is fully funded.
- What are the salary range, contractual status, and employment conditions?
The position offers a gross salary of approximately €2,500 per month. You will be provided with a three-year executive-level contract, entitling you to comprehensive benefits, including unemployment coverage and pension contributions. Additionally, you may take on teaching assignments to supplement your income, with extra pay calculated based on hours taught. Most institutions in France offer student or staff residences, making it possible to secure accommodation at a reasonable rent.
Program Structure & Logistics
- Is the program fully on-site, or are hybrid / remote research options possible?
Full onsite research is preferred. In some cases, joint supervision with a period abroad (in conjunction with another PhD program) may be possible. Applicants requesting this arrangement should clearly explain their situation and request it in their cover letter.
- Can applicants already enrolled in another PhD apply for future collaborations or postdoctoral opportunities?
